Composer Chat with Sophie Stone & Sungmin Shin

“Life Through Our Windows”

fivebyfive performs two intimate pieces that explore the fragility in our lives, connecting us through our hopes, sorrows, and dreams.

fivebyfive explores Sophie Stone’s Post Card Sized Pieces as the group dreams of a time when travel will be possible. Join us as we cherish life through our windows and start to dream of walking out our doors.

When performing together over Zoom, sounds and music become fragile as they compete with each other. Post Card Sized Pieces was written for Zoom and captures the fragility and intimacy of lives viewed through small windows. Each performance is directed by the unsuspecting actions of audience members.

Also written specifically for Zoom, Sungmin Shin’s Postlude 2020 is an intimate, quiet and healing reflection of those close to us yet separated. As each instrument takes its turn speaking, a narrative of remembrance unfolds inflecting emotions that greatly outweigh the number of the piece’s notes. This will be its first performance and is dedicated to those who are no longer physically with us.
